This one is for the iPhone users out there. Do you find you have phrases or text strings you use often? Try replacing them with a shortcut to save yourself some time!
By default, iPhones and iPads ship with “omw” as a shortcut for “On my way!”, but you can also create and customize any shortcut you want. Let’s look at how you can create a custom shortcut.
- Launch the Settings app.
- Tap General
- Tap Keyboard
- Tap Text Replacement
- Tap the + icon in the top right corner
- In the Phrase field, type the entire phrase you’d like to create a shortcut for
- In the Shortcut field, type in the snippet you want to be replaced by the phrase
- Tap Save in the top right
As an example I create a shortcut for my Inkling email address. I love having shortcuts for my email addresses so I don’t have to type them out everytime I’m filling out a form or sending someone my email address. Now when I need to share my email address, I can just put in my shortcut and my full email address comes out.
Repeat these steps for any common phrases you use to save yourself a little bit of time and to simplify typing on your mobile device.
