This article is part of a series on choosing images for your website. Feeling overwhelmed about what images to use on your new website? Once you have photos for your website you need to make sure they look cohesive throughout the site.
Tips for keeping your website images cohesive
If you have professional photos then they are likely already cohesive and consistent with the lighting and colour palette.
If you are using stock photos or your own photos or a mix of photos from different sources you are going to want to take a look at them all together and see if they all have a similar look and feel. If you don’t have access to professional photo editing software like Photoshop there is still a lot you can do in an entry level or free program like Canva, to make your images more consistent.
Experiment and try making adjustments in Canva to your photos. You can apply filters, adjust the lighting, make photos warmer or cooler – you can make big or small tweaks to your photos depending on what is necessary.
If you are making adjustments to a set of images and you can’t tell if they look good or consistent I would recommend walking away from the project for a day or two and then taking a second look with fresh eyes and seeing what your immediate reaction is and if any photos still feel out of place within the set. If anything does not feel quite right you can make further adjustments until you are happy with the photos as a set.
