This article is part of a series on choosing images for your website. Feeling overwhelmed about what images to use on your new website? Before you begin, take inventory of the images you have or will have.
Tips on sourcing images for your website
Will you be doing a branding photoshoot?
This is the best way to get a series of cohesive photos that speak to your brand. These photos can be tailored to your exact website needs. If you have the budget and the time, a branding shoot is definitely the way to go. And, if you are in the greater Toronto area, Canada we can make some excellent recommendations including @pictonatbrandingcreative (who shot our brand photos) and @afterallphoto.
Will you be using stock photos?
If you don’t have the time or money for a professional shoot will you be using stock photos? If so, try choosing photos that are not overused so that the same photos are not showing up on your site and across competitor sites, or even worse, on websites that may not align with your values. There are free stock photo sites like Unsplash and Pexels but be aware that these photos are often overused. However, if you purchase from some sites like Shutterstock you can see how popular the photos are and judge whether you think they are currently overused.
Do you want a higher end stock photo experience?
Some photographers also over boutique or premium stock photo collections for purchase to give a higher end experience within the world of stock photos. We love @cliofoxstock.
Have a knack for photography?
You can also use your own photos.
