Getting your website ready for the summer

It’s almost summer! But wait – let’s take a quick look at your website first

Are you slowing down over the summer? Fitting in some well deserved vacation time? Sprinkling in some summer hours? Now is a good time to make sure the user experience on your website is ready to keep working for you over the summer (even if you are taking time off to enjoy the sunshine)!

Here are a few things to do before you get into summer mode so that your website is working for you, even if you’re nowhere near the office.

1. Update the business hours on your website

If your business hours are on your website, make sure they reflect the hours you will be working over the summer. This includes any messaging about the turn-around time for email replies. If your website says you reply to all inquiries within 2 business days, make sure that is still realistic over the summer.

2. Rethink your blog feed

Will you be updating your blog or news page over the summer? You could batch some new content to release over the summer, but if your clients are less active over the summer you may be taking time off from your blog to recharge. Why not pull your top posts into a feed on your Home page instead of your recent posts? This will get your best content front and center and it doesn’t highlight the break in new content.

3. Ensure a flawless user experience

Now is a good time to do a quick check through your website and make sure everything is up to date with the content, that your branding is on point, and that there are no issues or roadblocks with the user flow, so that people can easily learn about your business and get in touch quickly and easily, even while you are less active online.

Keeping the inquiries and sales coming in over the summer, even if you are taking time off, will make for a smoother transition back to business-as-usual in the fall.

Is there anything else you are doing to get your website ready for the summer?
