What’s the difference between UX design and UI design?
UX stands for ‘user experience’ design and UI means ‘user interface’ design. The names give you a good clue about the difference – let’s break it down.
UX design
Simply put, UX focuses on creating a product that solves a problem, aims to make that product easy to use, and the end result is how we experience that product.
UX puts the users’ needs first when crafting a design solution – you define the problem, understand the user, create personas, user flows, sketches (high and low fidelity wireframes and prototypes), and perform usability testing.
UI design
UI focuses on the finer design details of the product, making the product more visually appealing and on brand, and it is what we see while using a product.
UI focuses on how the product is interacted with – focusing on the visual hierarchy and patterns that give visual cues to the user. Elements like the colour scheme, typography, iconography, and layout need to be considered.
When starting a project UX should be tackled first followed by UI. If you have questions about either, let us know.
