Google Lighthouse

Last time I covered 3 tips for improving your website accessibility to ensure all visitors can easily navigate and engage with your site. This week I’ll show you how to use Google Lighthouse to review an assessment of your site to see how accessible your current site is and get insights into its overall performance.

Installing Google Lighthouse

I recommend using the Google Lighthouse Chrome Extension. To install the extension, open Chrome on your computer and go to chrome.google.com and search for Google Lighthouse. Click on the option that appears and click the Add to Chrome button. You should now see a little lighthouse icon at the top of your window near the address bar.

Using Google Lighthouse

Next up, navigate to the page you want to assess. Once it has loaded, click the lighthouse icon and select Generate Report. This will launch the assessment in a new tab. When it’s done loading you’ll have a full report giving you great insights and suggestions on what improvements could be made to your page to improve your accessibility, SEO performance and overall performance.

If your report shows room for improvement and you’d like some assistance boosting your ratings, give us a shout!
