If you’re starting to think about creating a website for your brand or revisiting your existing site configuration and you want to retain some control over content updates moving forward, you’ll need to select a Content Management System (CMS), which allows you to build and manage a website without having to know any code at all.
Let’s take a closer look at the 4 most common platforms we see people using
Wix
We find Wix tends to be used most by people who are just starting out in their business and want to take a stab at building their own site. Wix’s drag and drop editor can help get you on the web, but we find Wix a little more restrictive and less scalable.
Squarespace
We find Squarespace is most popular with small businesses that want to handle some or all of the setup of their site without having to code. There is a monthly fee to be aware of and if you want to customize your setup beyond your own ability, there are lots of super talented developers who work with Squarespace.
WordPress
WordPress is easily customizable and is incredibly scalable. You can also leverage plugins and themes (free and paid options available) to create a unique experience.
WordPress is free to use, but you’ll need to purchase your domain and set up hosting for your site. You can also choose if you’d like to use an existing template to start or work with a web team (like us!) to bring your idea to life on the web.
Shopify
Have an online store? Shopify is a great solution. Their support is excellent, with the help of a developer (or your own coding knowledge) you can customize your selected template, and additional features can be added by purchasing third-party apps.
