Read on for a list of the core plugins we like to include on our clients’ WordPress sites!

Classic Editor

This one might be a bit controversial, but with over 5 million downloads, we’re definitely not alone. We prefer the look and user experience of the classic WordPress editor over the more recent Gutenberg editor. When we want page builder capabilities on a site, we typically use Divi or Elementor, so we don’t often need the extra capabilities Gutenberg provides. Installing the Classic Editor plugin enables the previous “classic” editor.

Yoast SEO

At Inkling Design, we don’t offer SEO services, so we like to set our clients up with the Yoast SEO plugin to give them a starting point for optimizing their site for search engines. This plugin is the leader among WordPress SEO plugins and provides a great system that helps guide you through SEO optimization for your pages.

UpdraftPlus

You’ve heard us say over and over how important it is to have a backup system in place for your site. With that in mind, we like to include UpdraftPlus and configure an automated backup schedule where we backup the database daily and the files weekly.

iThemes Security

To add another layer of protection to our clients’ sites, we’ll often install iThemes Security. This can help prevent certain attacks that are common on WordPress site and also encourages best practices such as requiring strong passwords for users.

WP Super Cache

To help give sites a speed boost, we like to install WP Super Cache. There are a lot of good caching plugin options, but we typically go with this one because it is made by Automattic, the team that made and maintains WordPress itself.
